Photo's From Poultry Operations in East Africa

After years of preparation and planning I have finally made it to Eastern Africa to visit my Egg Module project and research the poultry industry. I started my trip in Nairobi, where I met with KenChic, USAID and Winrock. It was very interesting to start my trip by meeting with experts. Thank you again Lee for setting up those meetings. Here are photos from a farm I visited with USDA and Kenchic.

I then arrived in Uganda and traveled to Masaka to meet Saidat, the entrepreneur we are supporting through our project with Positive Planet. Saidat is raising 3600 layers and when I vistied the birds were about 6 weeks old. She was very interested in what poultry operations where like the US and shared with her the Egg Module guide and digital library.

I then travel to western Uganda to the town of Tororo where I visited my other project in the village of Juba.

Poultry International - Poultry aids developed, developing economies

Poultry International - Poultry aids developed, developing economies: "Work by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, however, has now addressed this.

A comparative study of farm incomes in the south of the US state of Georgia has concluded that counties that have poultry production facilities have, on average, total net farm income of almost three times that of comparable but non-poultry-producing counties. Poultry counties were also found to be more economically efficient, with a net income per acre of more than double that of non-poultry counties."
